Today at @harveyforny's Day of Service for Earth Month, St. Vartan Park Conservancy was proud to volunteer, helping ready bookshelves for NYCHA tenants—and to accept (by officers @okevinokeefe, @michaelannrowe and @cbb311) a state proclamation from Assembly Member Epstein for the Conservancy's "enduring and positive change" for community.

This morning in the St. Vartan Park garden, we checked in on this robin's nest. For the second straight spring, we've been teaching garden visitors from a respectful distance about the stages from robin's nest creation through the full fledgling stage.
This Earth Day, @stvartanpark's @okevinokeefe and @michaelannrowe spoke in St. Vartan Park with @play_nyc_e. In this first clip released by Play NYCe, Kevin talks about locked MTA green space, located near the St. Vatan Park garden that he successfully led a campaign to open to all.
Today in Murray Hill, banners were unfurled to mark the 20th anniversary of 88 structures in the neighborhood being listed on the National Register of Historic Places. (More than 150 separate structures were listed on the National Register in 2013.)
MECA recognizes the @mhnanyc Preservation & Design Committee including chair Susan Demmet and vice chair Elaine Silber for leading the banner project and their respectfull acknowledgement that "Murray Hill is part of the ancestral and spiritual homeland of the Lenape, here long before the Murrays, with their own unique history and culture. We celebrate them too, in this banner year."
On this Earth Day, we share one of the children's letters from St. Vartan Park Earth Celebration this month—a call for solar panels, as part of @climatefamsnyc's Green and Healthy School Campaign.
In the park, a fun writing and drawing area created many letters from families for city and state officials to provide more funding for green upgrades to schools.
Among the actions the campaign supports is citywide legislation reintroduced this year by @stvartanpark's St. Vartan Park Earth Celebration partner @keithpowers that would require new standards in schools and other city buildings "to monitor indoor air quality in real time so we know what we’re breathing."
Council Member Powers reported that the letters would be delivered to the mayor so that the mayor can see the high grassroots demand from schoolchildren and their families for a better environment.
Pointing to the school across the street from the garden, Powers reported, "Schools like P.S. 281 just behind us, we are going to make sure the air they breath is safe every day by expanding and raising air quality standards, in our residential buildings, our commercial buildings, and — most importantly in my eyes — our school buildings."

A special edition of the complimentary @stvartanpark newsletter — about the April 13 St. Vartan Park Earth Celebration and sent to subscribers yesterday, now appears on the News page of our website (link in bio).
Smiles abounded on April 13 as hundreds of participants exemplified community unity at the fourth annual affair.
Despite rain at times during a slate of free family-friendly activities, event co-hosts St. Vartan Park Conservancy, Manhattan East Community Association (MECA) and New York City Council Member Keith Powers have received many sunny comments about the day. A lot of the feedback reports that the festivities have formed new friendships and community partnerships as well as delivered mutual appreciation for preservation and conservation of the earth.
Said New York State Senator Kristen Gonzalez during remarks at an event activity in the park garden, "When we do events like this and come together as a community, we actually build a lot of power to change."
On April 13 in the St. Vartan Park garden, @repjerrynadler delivers a proclamation to @stvartanpark's @okevinokeefe.
Earlier in the week, Congressman Nadler read O'Keefe into The Congressional Record with a statement that began, "Mr. Speaker, I rise today to recognize the tremendous accomplishments of Kevin O'Keefe, a dedicated community leader in East Midtown Manhattan."
